Santuario de Chimayo Intentional Candle
People have been visiting the Santuario for generations asking for healing for themselves and others. They offer prayers of petition and thanksgiving for favors received. The Tewa Indians named Chimayo as “Tsi-Mayoh,” after one of the four sacred hills above the valley that lies directly behind El Santuario. The Pueblo Indians believed that they shared their land with supernatural beings. The natives believed healing spirits were in the hot springs. The Pueblo and Tewa used Santuario de Chimayo for healing long before the Spanish occupation.
